Deleted Files - Sherlock Holmes Won’t Be Able To Help Either
As a writer who works on a computer each day, I can tell you that one of the most frustrating things that can happens is to lose a file, or to delete one by accident. I have done it a few times, and it has almost left me in tears of frustration. After I have gotten an article just how I like it, it is almost impossible to recreate it exactly as it was. I have to get smarter about how to handle deleted files to make sure I can recover them.
Microsoft Word has the capacity to recover deleted files, but I have yet to figure out how it works. I type in Word, but save in Notepad, so sometimes, I lose a file. I have found directions for auto save, and for how to look for a temp file, but I’m afraid my computer is a mess, and I can’t seem to find anything. Finding deleted files on my computer is like finding a needle in a haystack, so to speak. It’s nearly impossible. In my frustration, I usually end up retyping the document, but it is never as good as it was the first time around. This makes deleted files and lost data my hugest pet peeve associated with what I do for a living.
I have begun looking into software to help me recover deleted files. So far, I haven’t found anything I like, but I have just started looking. I have to find something, because deleted files are a time waster for me, and that means lost money. If you work online, it is very important you have a way to recover deleted files. It’s not just for work though; this software can help you save photos or personal documents that you may have deleted accidentally.
Sometimes, you can get lucky and find your deleted files sitting in your recycle bin. This rarely happens however, and you need more protection in case your computer crashes. If your computer needs to be reset, you will lose everything you have saved on it. Those files will be deleted and will be gone forever. If you didn’t back up properly, your deleted files will be a distant memory. So even if you have software, or are very good at saving, you can still end up with deleted files that are gone forever if you don’t back up your computer as needed.
